There are always interesting projects that the volunteers undertake at the Otway Districts Historical Society.
Current projects include:
Sawmill and forestry commemorative project - This project involves researching the workers of the Otway sawmills and forests and commemorating their contribution to these industries.
The historical walking/driving tour project stage two.
In the second stage of this project we will investigate and produce the walking and diving tour in a variety of formats to ensure we are delivering a tour that enables all to access the information.
The aim of this project is to contribute to the ODHS work in its quest to further promote the historical and cultural aspects of the Beech Forest township and surrounding area. This work will address the need and demand to access historical information in various formats and will include an oral history component from both a town elder and a traditional owner.
We are pleased to announce that our Local History Grant application was successful and this project will now be fully funded.
Otway Districts Historical Society gratefully acknowledges
the Local History Grants Program and Public Record Office Victoria, supported
by the Victorian Government through the Community Support Fund.
Project completion date October 2024.
Collection signage project - This project's aim is to improve the visitor experience at the history rooms through directional and informative collection signage.
Photographic collection project - Through generous donations ODHS has over a number of years, amassed a large collection of photographs. This project in the first stage will involve the cataloguing and presenting of the images for exhibition.
The Beechy Oven restoration project - We are collaborating with the Beech Forest Progress Association on this project with the aim to restore the historic Beechy Oven. Fundraising efforts have been in place for the last couple of years and are ongoing along with grant applications.
